Eight nabbed with fake credit cards.
I think it’s all getting too easy now to just go on a shopping spree with someone else’s credit card. Simply try and match the signature and most of the time you’ll get away with it. Why? Well I noticed that merchants/cashier hardly care to check if it was the real owner who just signed the receipt, let alone ask for an ID to further verify the card that has just been used. So if you’ve only realized that your card has been gone for an hour, there’s a good chance it has been used.
I think this issue can be avoided if the Ministry of Finance insist that all credit card issuers here in Brunei must issue cards that has the owners photo/headshot on it, just like our National Identity Card. I remember years back one of the International bank here used to offer the option but I guess not many people care to take it up. There shouldn’t be premium charged for it too as this will discourage card holders from opting for this security features.
If all banks in Brunei implement this ‘owner-photo-on-credit-card’ move, it could not only give piece of mine to owner, it would also help cutdown disputes on which is the legal purchases and so on. Imagine the time and hassle that would be saved.
So tell me, would you like to have your photo on your credit card?
